Salvage is a complex combination of many disciplines. It requires an understanding of physics, structural analysis, historical review, oceanography, and heavy equipment operations.
A salvor must be able to think outside the box and outside the water and have a good understanding of a wide variety of marine technologies. Proficiency in side scan sonar, ROV, and submersibles is vital.
For over 20 years, NMC staff has performed salvage operations around the world - from the recovery of WWII era aircraft in the boreal forests of Labrador, to the location of submerged shipwrecks in South America, and the retrieval of the bell of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald from the depths of Lake Superior.
